Cannon Beach Revisited
Above, looking from the balcony
Spotting a few flying gulls below
Absorbing the panoramic view.
To my right,
Affluent, gray shingled homes of Cannon Beach
Ahead, the mixed tans of fine granular sand
Ending at the rugged juncture of forested land
Spilling jagged rocks into the sea.
From the left, whitecaps
Rolling in from the blue Pacific
Seemingly endless and non-ceasing.
My thoughts return to other visits,
Memories etched into my mind.
Times spent with family and self
Moments weaving from real to surreal.
Cannon Beach, still an oasis in my mind.
Comments: Cannon Beach, Oregon is one of my favorite places to visit during the summer. It is a place to relax, enjoy magnificent scenery, wonderful food, and meet a lot of nice people. This trip in June of 2002 was taken with my 19-year old son. We enjoyed the time of sharing and getting to know each other, now in different roles as he enters adulthood. We also had a great time seeing the sights in our Sebring convertible.
Recommendations: You can hardly go wrong in this resort community - still not tacky as some of the seaside communities have become. Click here for an excellent web site regarding Cannon Beach.
Food: There are many but to name a few Dooger's Seafood & Grill, The Wayfarer, and Bill's Tavern & Brewhouse (a microbrewery) For incredible pizza a must stop is Pizza a' fetta (deservedly ranked as one of the top 100 pizza parlors in the country)
Places to Stay: A fine selection of rooms will accommodate almost any budget. My favorite has one of the largest assortments from oceanside to in-town options. The staff is friendly and efficient. I believe you will enjoy your stay at Hallmark Resorts. There are also a number of privately owned options.
Shopping: In most instances, think of class. I enjoy fine art, art glass, pottery, and unique-artsy establishments. Cannon Beach offers many from which to select. Two of my favorites, very diverse in nature, are Wild Bird Shop (more than the name implies) and Northwest By Northwest Gallery (very classy with warm, personable service)
