Huka Falls and Lake Taupo are two natural wonders of New Zealand. While there are many falls in the world higher than Huka, somehow one is still impressed with the power and the magic of the crystal clear water as it rushes downstream to Lake Taupo. Lake Taupo is an extremely deep, pure lake which serves as a water source and recreation center for the north central part of the North Island. The City of Taupo has grown along the shores of this magnificent lake. It is a great place to visit and spend some time unwinding, as many Kiwis have chosen to do as evidenced by the number of vacation homes. Let me quickly add, there are no big condos and developments as have destroyed the beauty of many of our lake and coastal areas.
Huka Falls - to get a better perspective, notice the people in the upper left corner
Just before the Falls
Take a little, wet joy ride
Lake Taupo from above the city
The City of Taupo taken during the winter - notice Mt. Ruapehu in the distance (about a 90 minute drive.)
Nature's lawnmowers - despite the proximity to the mountains, it NEVER snows in Taupo
Crystal clear water - also great fishing
