ABOUT THE PJ

This is the first issue of the Poetical Journal, a regular e-mailing that will come out about every two weeks. The PJ's primary intent is to present the poetical muses of Bob Casey and, on occasion, other poets. Bob hopes several byproducts will be fostering joy, understanding, and sometimes laughter. Also, included in this journal will be periodic recommendations and comments regarding places, people, and things.

You are receiving this mailing for basically one of two reasons: 1) you are a relative and/or you know Bob well so he thought you wouldn't be offended by receiving this unsolicited email; 2) you have showed interest in his poetry or web site. In either case, THIS WILL BE THE ONLY ISSUE you receive without subscribing. If you enjoy the issue and would like to receive future issues, you need to follow the directions below to SUBSCRIBE. (Of course, there is no charge for the subscription.) Likewise, should you decide that you are no longer interested, you can unsubscribe quite easily by following the directions below. Please allow me to reiterate that all of you will be unsubscribed after this mailing and need to (re)subscribe if interested in receiving additional mailings.

Since this is the first issue and requires some additional descriptions, it will be slightly longer than the ones to follow. Most issues will be able to be read in less in 4 minutes (assuming you read ALL the text). Each issue will contain one or two poems. Future issues will also contain recommendations regarding restaurants, interesting places to stay and/or visit. There will also be periodic contests and prizes - sorry, no free trips to Hawaii. I plan to have some fun with this journal and trust you will too, especially if you provide feedback and reactions. They will help me grow as a poet.

POEM FOR THE ISSUE

Moment of Reflection

Glacial waters sparkling an iridescent blue green
Peaks piercing the blue sky
Occasionally shrouded by wispy clouds.
Makes one ponder the mystery of life

Far below on the rocky shore
A young boy plays with rocks
Entranced by their feel and form
Oblivious to such insignificant thoughts

Comments: In 1993 my family was exploring the "Last Frontier," Alaska. During the trip I was continually overwhelmed with the changing vistas and the indescribable beauty that one saw around each bend in the road. My visual senses went into overload. Even the smell of the air was somehow purer than in the Lower 48. Taking a break on an overlook, the silence only broken by the distant sound of the water and the occasional, unwelcome passing car, I glanced below at the lake, the intensity of the reflecting light causing me to squint. Then I saw my son Craig who was ten at the time, doing the age-old pursuit of trying to skip rocks, this time, against the incoming waves–obviously with little success. He cared not; he was lost in his activity. I savored for the moment the joy of fatherhood. I also felt a strong sense of living in and appreciating that moment.

RECOMMENDATIONS

1) If you have not visited my web site recently, you may want to do so. There have been many new poems added. The one that is probably the most bizarre is entitled Over the Ledge. It deals with a recent, very real dream that I had. I also had an exceptionally good time generating the poem's accompanying pictures. To see what is new, click on https://poeticaljourneys.com and then click on What's New (left frame). IGNORE the link as it is no longer active.

2) My new book, The Wanderer: A Poetical Journey will be out in mid March. (At least, that is what the publisher says.) More later...
