One Poem this Month:

A perfect poem for the Holidays for we all need a place to rest. Look closely, note the bird resting on the cross in the header picture. However, your faith may not be your place to go to. Whatever you choose, in this hectic world be sure you have someplace you can go to for times of rest.

The ornaments mentioned in the poem were a gift from my sister G.L., the author of the vignette below.

Guest Vignette this Month

Alrights

I am pleased to have Playwright G.L. Rush return this month with a thoughtful vignette. (This vignette was originally published in the 2020 December Issue)

At this stage in my life, it’s not the parties and good times that makes me smile but the smiling faces of my grandchildren. I love being a grandmother and often talk about my wonderful, smart, grandchildren whenever I get the chance...Maybe more often than people care to hear. But as great as being a grandmother is, there were so many years that led up to this time in my life. I was first a daughter, then a wife who became a mother and then a grandmother. The combination of all those years has made me what I am today.

Often thinking back on them, I find myself wondering about the things I could have done differently instead of what I actually did right. It’s that annoying part of your mind that likes to stir things up, making you feel you didn’t quite get it right! We don’t have our lives on a giant chalkboard where you can take an eraser and rub out the should nots, so we will never be that perfect person.....And that’s ok! The good things along with the should nots have shaped me into who I am today.

So in 2021, I’m going to try to be a little easier on myself. I won’t dwell on the things I didn’t get right, though of course I’ll try not to repeat them, and I’ll silently give myself an “Alright!” for those things I do right that makes my life and the people’s lives around me a whole lot better. (Ed.: Still holds true for 2025.)

This might be something others might also want to practice. You may be surprised by all the "Alrights" you get.
