We have been blessed to return to the Islands many times. Hence, we are not caught up in the rush to fill every moment with sightseeing. Instead, we take time to savor. Also, frankly, we are older and have different values than when we were young. This poem speaks to our routines on Oahu.

A friend recently sent me a picture, requesting information about the store I spent much of my early youth working in (from about 10 years of age, sweeping, shoveling the walks, washing the windows, clerking, etc., through my freshman year in college). The picture is labeled somewhat in error, as it was known at the time as Resch and Casey Hardware. My grandfather later acquired the Resch Family’s ownership stake. Before my parents sold the store, it had transitioned a decade earlier more into a gift store known as Casey Hardware and Gifts. Obviously, the picture triggered the poem.
