Modern medications can be wonderful, helpful tools in managing illnesses and pain. But many fail to realize the effects they have on one’s mind and personality. I wrote this celebratory poem after going off a medication that I had been taking daily for over a decade. I could not believe the mental and personality impacts it had had on me. While on it, I had been oblivious to its effects.
This poem is dedicated to my brother-in-law, who is struggling with a life-and-death illness. That day, provided a momentary reprieve.
