Today, we take a break from poetry and focus on travel and recommendations.
Jan and I took a road trip to southern Utah. In my readings, I had learned of a remote motel, Boulder Mountain Lodge, and restaurant, Hell’s Backbone Grille, that receive outstanding ratings from those who visit the small community of Boulder, Utah (located near Capitol Reef and Escalante national parks). The restaurant and lodge are so well-known that securing reservations can be extremely challenging. I was able to secure them for a Sunday stay. We made the 4+ hour scenic trip to this small bit of Shangri-La and were NOT disappointed. Though I have been privileged to eat in some world-class restaurants, we found our evening to be one of the most enjoyable dining experiences of our lives. The lodge grounds are not only picturesque but quiet, almost contemplative. Personnel go out of their way to make you feel welcome. (The restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so plan accordingly.
We continue our southern Utah tour, traveling from Boulder, UT to Moab. 200+ miles, including side trips. There are no explanations, mainly a few of the better shots taken mostly through the car windows. Enjoy!
Our last tour day: We continue our brief sojourn in southern Utah at Canyonlands National Park near Moab. Many head to the area to visit Arches N.P., the more popular of the two. However, I did a presentation on that park a few years back. Our focus today is on Canyonlands. If you look at the map, the park is actually surrounded by other parks. The park only has two major roads within it, making for an easy car tour. However, it is a hiker’s paradise. The majority of photographs were taken from the car or observational areas. The yellow flower shown at the end was a cactus in bloom. Enjoy the visuals
